What to bring to your first Kindermusik class

One of the top questions parents ask is, "do I need to bring anything to my first class?" The answer is yes... and it's the easiest list ever!

Your Inner Child

A core philosophy of Kindermusik is to follow the child. Your little music-maker knows best what they need to do to continue to grow and learn about themself and the world around them. And in Kindermusik, we follow along by literally getting on your child's level. We’ll sit on the floor (but we have chairs if you need one), dance and move, and pretend to be anything the children imagine! So get in touch with your inner child, release your inhibitions, and play along! Not only will your participation enhance your child’s experience, but you’re likely to have a blast, too!

The Singing Voice You Were Born With

Your voice is your child’s favorite voice. Hearing it makes them feel secure and calm. They will never know (or care) if you’re singing off key. So sing along! Many of our songs are ones you’ll already know, or are easy to catch on to. Plus, with all your class music and more at your fingertips in the Kindermusik app, you and your child will be singing along in no time!

Patience

Chances are, your child might behave a bit differently at their first class than at home. In a new place with new faces and highly stimulating activities, it is normal for a young child to be timid, clingy, or even emotional. Don’t worry! Encourage your child to engage, but also respect when they need to retreat to your lap or just watch for a few minutes. Almost every child who is shy at first ends up as one of the most vivacious little music-makers by the end of class. And the next time you come to our classroom, you’ll be surprised how quickly your child bounds in to see their new friends again and engage in our class routines.

Cool Socks (Optional)

We have a no shoes policy within the class area. This ensures that the floor stays clean for our young ones who are crawling and exploring everything they find on the floor with their fingers and mouths. Plus, bare feet enable your child to receive sensory information through their toes as they crawl, walk, jump, and tiptoe about. But bare feet are not a requirement, especially in cooler weather. So dig out your coolest, fuzziest, most colorful socks to show off!

If you haven't already, drop us a line to tell us a bit about your little music maker. We can’t wait to help you find the perfect class and welcome you into our warm and supportive Kindermusik community. We can't wait to meet you!... and see your coolest socks :)
