Fine Motor Skills for Piano & Life
“Fine Motor Skills” may be buzzwordy, but it’s important for playing instruments and so much more In class, we strengthen the little muscles in the fingers, hands, and wrists through finger plays, music games, crafts, and piano-playing, of course!
“Each teacher we have had is clearly a professional musician with professional early childhood training. And all of our teachers show sincere motivation to connect with our kiddos and to make a lasting impact on families. We love Harmony Garden!”

Small Group Lessons are 45-minutes in length once a week.
Because continuity in learning is important, we’ve arranged the schedule so that once your child begins their Piano Explorers journey, they can continue in their same class time uninterrupted until you need to make a schedule change, graduate to private lessons, or change their instrument.
-
Whenever there is an opening in a class, your child can begin! Enrollment is ongoing throughout the year, with the opportunity to change times for the summertime.

We love that Piano Explorers makes learning the piano accessible to children at a younger age than most other learning approaches. That said, readiness for piano lessons can vary widely among young children. Little ones develop and change rapidly! Our group approach is designed to help students grow and learn, and creates the most feelings of success when children begin once they are truly ready. Sometimes, waiting just a few months can make all the difference and provide the most joy and confidence as your young musician flourishes!
Here are some milestones a new student should have:
Be at least 4.5 years of age
Ability to count to at least 10
Solid one-to-one correspondence (ability to count each of their fingers)
Ability to hold and write with a pencil or crayon
Ability to follow simple two-step instructions
Ability to focus on and engage in an activity for at least 10 minutes
A genuine interest in music or the piano!
-
Those students who demonstrate the attention span, desire, and mastery of concepts needed for longer (30 or 45-minute) fully private lessons can book an introductory private lesson with one of our instructors to gauge their readiness for this exciting next step in their musical learning experience.

Our mission is for each child's musical experience to be a joyful one that brings them confidence in every other area of their life. That's why it’s critical that each student start at the right level and pace for them - and this is different for each child.
Piano Explorers is so successful because it is designed specifically for the developmental needs of the early elementary aged child: an age that learns best through multi-sensory, multi-modal, play-based experiences with their peers.
Over the last decade we have found a prior musical experience such as a group piano-preparatory class provides the best transition into the more intensive fully private lesson environment. For this reason, a program such as this is prerequisite for beginning private lessons under the age of six.
